18-inch Composition and cloth Arranbee Debuteen Doll from over 80 years ago in very good played-with condition. I have had her for decades and I am trying to reduce my collection to only a single sample of each type of doll rather than multiples. She is in very good condition but I will list and describe every flaw that I can find.
The book, "Arranbee Dolls, The Dolls That Sell On Site" by DeMillar and Brevik states that Arranbee promoted Debu'teen as fashion dolls with slim teenage bodies. It states that many were unmarked, but this doll is marked R & B. Page 50 shows a similar Debu'teen doll with human hair. Head marked: R & B
Composition on her face is very good. The only two very tiny cracks are on her lower eyes and can only be seen with very close examination (please see photo). She has feather-stroked eyebrows and lightly shaded eyelids with deep blue eyes; the lashes are missing on her left eye. The lashes on the right are good. She has blushed cheeks with a small rub on the right cheek and red lip color with a tiny chip of red paint missing on the bottom lip. Her honey blonde human-hair wig has the netting showing on the top that is covered by her straw hat. Body:
Her shoulder-plate is in very good condition with some scuffs but no crazing or cracks. Her arms have only minor crazing; hands are very good with no chips or paint loss on the fingers. Her legs have light crazing and a small crack that can be felt on each leg (please see photos). Her cloth body is in good condition with a small seam on the side that needs to be stitched closed (please see photo). I never take shoes off of an old doll because the shoes can break but I have no reason to believe that her feet are not as they should be. Clothing:
Debu'teen has her original shoes and socks. The socks are fine but the shoes are in POOR condition from over 80 years of age and play. I believe that her slip is original and fits her perfectly. It has a couple of small stains; the fabric appears to be rayon and is very well-made. Her dress is a wonderful replacement that I put on her; it fits her like it was made for her and is age-appropriate. The closure in the back is a hook and eye and a snap. Her straw hat is a replacement.
