An antique dollhouse made in Europe in the early 1900s.  These houses are commonly referred to by collectors as French Seaside Villas or Deauville Houses because they resemble the houses in a French resort town by that name.  It has long been believed that this type of house was made in Germany by Gottschalk, specifically for the French market.  More recent research in France indicates that they quite possibly were made in France by Villard & Weill.  They are charming little houses, wherever they may have originated!  This one has the door and windows printed on the external lithographs.  The base measures 11" x 7.5" and it stands 22" tall to the top of the turret.  There may have been a finial at the top of the turret at one time.  A small hole on the roof peak indicates that there may also have been a chimney.  Two holes in the front of the doorway on the base are where the original wooden steps would have been added.  The blue paint on the roof areas looks like it was refreshed at some point in time, and the front railing also may have been repainted.  There is minor soiling to the lithos on the exterior of the house.  Inside, the wallpapers and floor papers appear to be original, with the tiny nail heads still present on the floors where the pretty wooden French market furniture would have been tied in when the houses were sold furnished.   The rooms inside are 9 5/8" wide, 5.5" deep.  The upper room is 5 5/8" tall and the lower room is 6.25" tall.  On the bottom of the house there is the remains of a sticker from a toy shop in Paris where it may have originally been sold.  It is a sweet little dollhouse!
