This Babyland all composition child doll is a mystery.
I have not been able to find any information about the company, or other examples of this doll, either in reference books or online.
The doll is unmarked but the original box end is stamped Babyland Doll
.
The 15” doll is articulated at the neck, shoulders and hips and has a strawberry blonde mohair wig and blue glassine sleep eyes.
She wears her complete original outfit with pinafore, orange and purple geometric print dress, matching underpants, scalloped socks, and oilcloth shoes.
The doll has never been played with and appears to have spent the last eighty years in her box.
She is in nearly perfect condition, from a smoke-free home. She has her original matte finish, with no restoration.
There is a tiny amount of a whitish substance on the eyelashes of the right eye – probably an excess of the glue used to secure them in manufacturing.
There is very fine, faint, crazing on the cheeks and light crazing on the upper back, just below the neck.
The palm of the left hand has a small, shallow crack.
The wig retains the original bows, hairpin and rubber band.
The outfit is in perfect, crispy mint condition.
The box is worn but has served its purpose of protecting the doll. It has an adorable print of children, babies and toys.
