The 2011 Doris Day Barbie® doll outfitted in American Airlines Stewardess #984 (1961 minus cap). Excellent condition.  In  Baosity Wooden Box with Hinged Lid & Latch. I. History: a. Doris Day:
Doris Day began her career as a big-band vocalist, and she was successful almost from the start: One of her first records, “Sentimental Journey,” released in 1945, sold more than a million copies, and she went on to have numerous other hits. The bandleader Les Brown, with whom she sang for several years, once said, “As a singer Doris belongs in the company of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra.”
But it was the movies that made her a star. Her first starring movie role was in Romance on the High Seas (1948). And finished her movie career in 1968 with  Where Were You When the Lights Went Out and With Six You Get Eggroll. That year she began her own TV series, The Doris Day Show (1968). That show, like her movies, was successful, lasting until 1973. After her series went off the air, she made only occasional TV appearances.
Doris was a passionate animal rights activist. She ran Doris Day Animal League in Carmel, California, which advocates homes and proper care of household pets.
Doris died on May 13, 2019, in Carmel Valley Village, California ath the age of 97. b. Julia (1956): Julie is an edge-of-your-seat suspense thriller featuring Doris Day in one of her few dramatic roles. Day plays the title character of Julie Benton , a woman who is trapped in a volatile marriage to a insanely jealous man, Lyle Benton (played by Louis Jourdan).Stalked by Lyle, Julie abandons every vestige of their life together, adopts a new identity, and gets back her job as a flight attendant for Amalgamated Airlines. Stationed in New York, she must still make the occasional cross-country flight. On her first one back to San Francisco. she bunks in for the night with a fellow flight attendant, believing that she will be safe in her anonymity. Her anonimity is short lived. The picture received two Academy Award nominations, for Best Original Screenplay and Best Song. The film is among the earliest to feature the subplot of a flight attendant piloting an aircraft to safety, later used in Airport 1975 c.   The American Airline Stewardess  Uniform and the Jet age:     As the role of women in the air grew, and airline companies began to realize the publicity value of their stewardesses, more feminine lines and colors began to appear in the late 1940's.
Jet passenger service began in the United States in the late 1950s with the introduction of Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 airliners. Pan American introduced overseas flights on 707s in October 1958. The Jet Travel age was now in full swing. And the Airlines and flying public viewed the stewardesses as the face of the airlines. This was understandable since passengers interacted with cabin crew and rarely saw the Flight crew.
During the 1960s, the large Carriers maintained a conservative but glamorous image for Stewardess. Airlines began to commission designs from high-end department stores and still others called in noted designers or even milliners to create distinctive and attractive outfits. American and other well known carriers of the day went with a more fashionable outfit, that included fitted suit in navy blue a matching jacket with silver metal wings replacing the military style shoulder epaulets, and insignia American used a four button single breasted closure. The sheath skirt topped a sheer white nylon body blouse with collar and three-button front. Depending on the airline the collar were worn over the Jacket Lapels, or under the jacket. Hem lines fell just below the knee. d. Mattel's Barbie 2011 Doris Day (Pillow Talk) doll: The Doris Day doll was introduced in May 2011 as a set with Rock Hudson under The Pink Label Collection ; the set was titled "Pillow Talk" after the 1959 Movie by the same name starring Rock Hudson and Doris Day. The set was designed for the Collector market and came in a clear case to show the dolls and maintain NRFB for resale. This doll was restyled to fit Doris Day in the movie "Julie" 1956. The doll is outfitted in the vintage 1961 American Airline stewardess uniform. II. For Sale : The  Doris Day  Barbie® doll  with  American Airlines Stewardess uniform Mattel #984 (no Hat). This Doll is inspired by the 1956 movie "Julie". In which Julie Benton (Doris Day), a stewardess for "Amalgamated Airlines" is terrorized by her insanely jealous second husband, Lyle (Louis Jourdan). b. American Airlines #984 outfit: A smart authentic fitted suit in navy blue featured a trim gored jacket with silver metal wings and four button closure. The sheath skirt topped a sheer white nylon body blouse with collar and three-button front. Barbie® doll's Jacket featured the American Airlines insignia in silver metal.
