Richard Chan was born in Taiwan and at a young age, he and his family moved to South Africa, where he grew up. He received his degree in fashion design at London's Central Saint Martins art school and later worked in Paris, which inspired his creative ethos to challenge norms in innovative ways. He now works in Shanghai as a fashion designer for the product development team at Disney.
Richard's earliest memory of Disney was when his parents brought home a VHS tape of Sleeping Beauty
. As a 6-year-old, he remembers being captivated by the story and gothic-inspired design. Aurora's story of being born in one place and being whisked away to another life far from her home resonated with his own life of moving to a different country at a young age.
