Rare original from 1930’s w/ Blue Coat, White Pants and Boots, white cap and checkered cap, Bow-Tie
There was only one officially licensed company which sold Charlie Mccarthy toy figures and that was Effanbee. This doll has the stamp on his neck. The likeness was exact to that of Charlie McCarthy and they sold these figures in two sizes which were 15″ tall and 20″ tall… this doll is 15”. Both sizes came in a multitude of outfits ranging from Charlie’ detective outfit to his full tuxedo. This doll wears a white shirt, pants, hat and boots. He has a bow tie with blue sport coat. He comes w an extra checkered hat. Both sizes had the monocle which was metal and attached in a tiny hole drilled into the head. This doll is missing his monocle but has everything else. He has some cracking around his head but is in amazing condition. The pull string still works to open/shut his mouth.
The back of the neck has the marking Edgar Bergen’s Charlie McCarthy an Effanbee product. If this is not on the back of the neck it is NOT an Efanbee doll. EFFanBEE was a trade name of Fleischaker & Baum, doll makers based in New York. They produced the first Charlie McCarthy doll modeled after the dummy used by popular ventriloquist Edgar Bergen.
