From the well-kept collection of a meticulous Doll collector: Miss Gene Marshall, Mr Trent Osborn, and Miss Madra Lord in "Lover in Disguise"  Limited edition of 5000.
DISCLAIMER: THESE GENE MARSHALL DOLLS BY ASHTON DRAKE/MEL ODOM HAS BEEN RESTYLED AND REIMAGINED INTO A LIMITED EDITION ORIGINAL WORK OF ART. HER HAIRSTYLE, MAKEUP, ENSEMBLE, AND ACCESSORIES HAVE ALL BEEN ENHANCED AND OR CHANGED. THIS RECREATION INCLUDES BOTH ITS ORIGINAL COA AND A NOTARIZED NEW COA BY THE ARTIST.
All three dolls are starring in the movie, "Lover in Disguise" and are dressed in their costumes and shown in still photos in various scenes of the film being made. All costumes are each complete, in mint condition, and professionally steam pressed. Miss Marshall also wears a custom-made bracelet of black crystals, and Miss Lord wears a custom-made bracelet of purple crystals and a choker of black crystals which ties in the back with a coordinating pink bow. Each of them has had their makeup custom-enhanced to suit their costumes, including Trent, who wears a touch of black eyeliner and pink lip stain, making his lips look perfectly kissable. The masks of Miss Marshall and Miss Lord have had the eye holes adjusted to fit them perfectly, and their hairstyles are elaborate and finely done with a dash of pink glitter for that extra glamour (Miss Lord's on the top curls, and Miss Marshall's in the back). The ladies bodies are in perfect condition. Trent does have some mild discoloration on the torso, a small amount of chipping on one shoulder, and some chipping at his knees, but he is still fully functional and these flaws hardly matter when this, and most all of his other costumes (if/when worn) would cover these flaws. They have all been professionally styled, and "Pierrette" is COA # 103!!! All three of them have bendable knees and elbows, and Miss Marshall can turn at the waist as well. Mr. Osborn wears a brand new pair of real black leather boots, with hand-painted silver detail.
THE STORY OF:  "PIERETTE"
1946. It was a romance classic; a Cinderella modern times. story for It was Gene's film, "Lover in Disguise"—and though there was no glass slipper to try on, Gene got her Prince Charming in the last reel (played by everyone's favorite leading man, Trent Osborn).
In "Lover in Disguise," Gene stars as a hardworking shopgirl at a dress shop run by a society woman (Madra Lord at her haughtiest).
The shopgirl becomes enamored of one of the shop's regular customers, a dashing (and apparently well-to- do) older man. Even though they're at a distance in social standing, the two click, and just as the shopgirl thinks she has a chance at happiness, into the picture walks her Prince Charming's fiancée-none other than the haughty store owner.
What to do? Should the shopgirl sit back and let her Prince Charming get away? Or should she take matters into her own hands? No time to wait for a fairy godmother-knowing that the man of her dreams will be attending a charity masquerade ball that evening, she spies a perfect costume in the shop's window display: a pretty Pierrette.
Leaving behind a now naked mannequin, our Pierrette dashes off in disguise to the ball and to the arms of her lover.
Will he recognize her? Will he admit to his true feelings? Even though they were sure of the outcome, audiences held their breath, as Pierrette made her way down the ballroom stairs...
NEW STORY:
As she descended, she removed her mask, as did he. And when their eyes met, she rushed into his arms, and in a glorious moment of romance, he picked her up and swung her in a circle, with both of his strong arms holding her tight, both of them laughing with joy. There was no need for words, they both had known they were in love for a while now...
THE STORY OF:  "LOVER IN DISGUISE"
1946. Trent thought -- I am such a romantic at heart. I've always been a sucker for a happy ending-just like the one in that movie I made with Gene Marshall and Madra Lord called "Lover in Disguise." I played the title role: a handsome young (the press kit said "mature"--but that must have been a typographical error) playboy engaged to an attractive but clutching older woman who owns a fancy dress shop. Working at the shop is a sweet young thing who catches my fancy- but since I'm under the spell of the Other Woman, I can't express my true admiration for her.
Cut to the finale of the film. It's time for the Annual Charity Masquerade Ball. The playboy is the center of attention, dressed as a dashing French bon vivant, surrounded by lovely ladies-and under the watchful eye of his possessive lover. Suddenly, he senses something wonderful, and, turning, sees a vision at the top of the stairs. This Pierrette fairly floats down the steps and into his arms. His former fiance, costumed as a shady (but elegantly dressed) lady, stands with her eyes wide, full of embarrassment.
As the playboy whirls his mysterious Pierrette around the ballroom, he asks, "Where have you been all my life?"
"Right in front of your eyes," she counters. And they dance and dance and dance... As I said, I am such a romantic at heart. Maybe that accounts for my three marriages...
THE STORY OF:  "SCORNED WOMAN"
1946.
"Don't tell me-Gene gets Mr. Right, right?" Madra was on the phone with her agent, Benny.
"So I won't tell you," he said. "Story of my life," grumbled Madra.
"What, sweetheart? I didn't quite catch that," said Benny. "Oh, nothing-tell me the GOOD part." Madra lay back on her couch and popped a chocolate into her mouth.
"The good part is you get to wear fabulous clothes and the finale is a masquerade ball where you get to dress up in a turn-of-the-century hussy costume."
"Ooooh-a turn-of-the-century hussy?" Madra perked up. "Those were the kind of ladies my momma warned me about when I told her I wanted to be an actress! I can't wait to see Momma's face! Of course, I'll take the part-and I'll play this dame with a heart of 24 karat gold and we'll SEE who the audience roots for!"
And so Madra joined the cast of "Lover in Disguise" the dress shop owner. In the film's classic climactic as scene, she watches as her fiancé, a dashing playboy played by Trent Osborn, scorns her at a charity ball and runs off with her shopgirl, leaving Madra a masked, fuming, and heart-broken wallflower.
But, even behind her mask, Madra showed being a scorned woman included hiding a broken heart and that single tear that trickled from beneath her mask triggered many a stifled sniffle in the audience!
NEW STORY:
The love/breakup scene with Trent and Madra....
There is excitement in the air. It is the night of the great masquerade ball and everyone in town has been looking forward to it and hoping for an invitation.
They caught each other's eyes immediately as soon as he entered the ballroom.... She glided over to him and he held out his arm for her to take. They strolled to a private place near the balcony on the outside terrace, as their theme music played in the background...
As soon as they had semi-privacy, they embraced and she turned her head up to kiss him... But, he kissed her on the forehead... Never again would he kiss her on the lips like a lover.
"What the devil is the matter with you?"she said, "I'm not your sister, I'm your fiance!'
She pushed him away gently, and then said, "Don't tell me, I'm sure I already know. It's that girl, isn't it? That girl who can't do anything at the shop except walk around with her head in the clouds. Do you think don't notice you looking at her? Do you think I don't care? Well, I do care!" She held back a sob. The last thing she would do was let him see her cry.
"My darling," he said, "you know will always love you in my own way, but I'm not the right man for you. You need someone smarter than I am... Richer than I am... More practical than am..."
"Don't behave as though you're doing me a favor," she said, "you're lovesick with her. And bet I'm not the only one who knows it. Well don't you worry about me. I'll be fine because I'm always fine."
"You're right, my dear, you see... I need someone who needs me desperately... I don't think you need anyone desperately... Not that I don't admire your spirit. I do. We are just not right for each other."
"Don't say it," she said, "I am the one who is breaking off our engagement. Leave me my dignity at least, won't you?"
"Yes, darling. I hope someday you will forgive me," he said as he took his leave.
She couldn't help the tear that fell as soon as he was gone, and quickly put her mask back on to hide it. And as she turned, she saw the two of them dancing together in the ballroom. At that one moment, she did wish him all the happiness in the world, even if it was to be with that silly girl.
(The audience clapped and cheered even though the movie was not over yet!) Madra had done it again! She stole the hearts of the fans!!!❤️
Bonus: as an added delight, a Gene-sized poster for the film "Lover in Disguise" included in this lot!! It turned out beautifully! You will be pleasantly astonished with its magical appeal!
