Original Vernon Seeley Artist / Fashion Doll c1974 This exciting original fashion doll was  made by doll artist Vernon Seeley and signed twice.  The doll wears an elegant silk satin-like ensemble of dress and coat. The dress is decorated with lace and the coat has a charming bustle and bow at back. Gold tone ear bobs are pierced in her ears and on her feet the sweetest shoes with rosettes and mother of pearl shoe buttons.  Under her dress she wears fancy pantaloons with lace trim.  Beautifully detailed, this is truly a fashion doll, designed after the antique French Jumeau dolls.  And she is a terrific 25" tall. Model A 14 T; signed twice, plus has the date in the 1970s is impressed at the back of her head. The signature is worn and I can't make out the last digit of the date.   This lovely little girl has had only one owner in her life, a professional doll clothing designer and maker in upstate NY who used the doll as her model.  In very fine condition, although she does have mild attic surface ~ some dust in her clothing, messy hair, some water staining on the lapels of her coat, lace is a bit grungy.  Nothing more than a little TLC needed.  Her joints work smoothly; her eyes are original and she has weathered her years well. In 1946,  Mildred & Vernon Seeley started doll making in upstate New York. They modeled their dolls after the popular Jumeau French fashion dolls and the German dolls of the Victorian period.  In 1977, Mildred co-founded the Doll Artisan Guild, which today offers special recognition in doll-making competitions, including the "Millie" award, named for Mrs. Seeley. Together she and Vernon created World Doll Day, the second Saturday in June.  Questions?  Email anytime!
