PATTY REED'S DOLL - Rachel Laurgaard, Elizabeth Michaels (SIGNED 1961 Hardcover) First published in 1956, this is a 1961 reprint. Patty Reed was 8 years old in the winter of 1846. She and her family had traveled with the Donner Party from Springfield, Illinois to Sutter's Fort, California. The Donner Party got stranded by heavy snows in the Sierra Nevada mountains and endured bitter hardships. Many of them died. But some survived including eight-year-old Patty, a girl filled with dignity and determination in the face of mortal danger. This is her story, as told by Dolly, the wooden doll she kept hidden in her dress. NOTE : This is a fictional children's story based on historical fact. While many of the very real hardships of traveling by wagon train in the 19th century are told, the grimmer parts of the Donner saga are only briefly mentioned. And Dolly, the doll, survives even now at Sutter's Fort Historical Museum. See photo. FREE MEDIA MAIL SHIPPING TO DOMESTIC ADDRESSES!PRIORITY MAIL available for speedy delivery!
