Rare Norah Wellings 1930's DuDu Black African Islander Girl 18" Doll Early Label
Click images to enlarge Description DESCRIPTION: This is a wonderful antique doll made by renowned doll maker Norah Wellings (1893 — 1975), British toymaker and designer - known for her work at Chad Valley Co Ltd and later in her own factory, Victoria Toy Works. The doll dates from the late 1920's/early 1930's and is called "Du Du", and depicts a charming, young Black Islander girl. She is finely crafted and detailed and features a velvet body, with molded velvet-covered face, with sweet simples, hand-painted features and glass eyes. Her hair is made of mohair, appears to be uncut and is styled in an updo. She wears a dark red velvet dress with yellow polka dot pattern and sports bone-colored bakelite jewelry (earrings, necklace, and bangles). Her little feet are well-made, complete with toes. Her dress features an early Norah Wellings label. She is a precious girl, in remarkable condition, and will make a great addition to any collection! CONDITION: The doll presents well and is in very good antique condition, with minor display wear and patina commensurate with age. She has very minor surface wear, very light discoloration, but otherwise in great shape. Her nose has some surface wear and her lips have minimal loss to painted finish.
