When the doll artist Susan Wakeen was a child, she had few friends besides her identical twin sister, Sandy.The two spent hours playing with dolls and staging plays with Barbie, Ken and Skipper and making doll clothes.It appeared that Ms. Wakeen's doll days were over when she enrolled at Central Connecticut State University in New Britain and studied mathematics and psychology. Upon graduation she moved to the Boston and took a job teaching emotionally handicapped children.However, while visiting her sister in New Hampshire, Susan Wakeen had a chance meeting with a woman who made porcelain reproduction dolls. She took one lesson and made her first doll. After that she was hooked.Susan Wakeen and her husband Tom Wallace started their company in 1982 after receiving an order for ten porcelain dolls. Business was slow until 1985, when Ms. Wakeen won her first Doll of the Year award and by 1988 the company had become a distinguished creator of highly collectible dolls.Today, Ms. Wakeen is arguably the country's most awarded doll artist.Ms. Wakeen's signature look is a classic, cherubic baby face, with bright eyes and endearing expression.Up for sale is a Susan Wakeen “Love Me True” twenty inch vinyl doll #42 of 4,000 circa 1994.This doll features blonde hair, bright blue eyes and big eye lashes. Her pink dress includes tiny roses and pink ribbon trim.Doll does not have original packaging or COA but is stamped and numbered by the Susan Wakeen Doll Company.
