Very nice, vintage dainty Hanako Doll, made in Japan, in original
wooden box with all six wigs in original tissue. Doll comes in original kimono and
original stand. Doll measures 7 in. tall. Box measures about 8 x 7 x 2.
Box has crack on the back (see pictures)
but doll (is she a Geisha?) is lovely. Front label is a little faded (see pic). I bought this several decades ago at the estate sale of a
World War II veteran in Akron, Ohio. It’s an unusual boxed doll and I’ve never seen another like it at Akron-area estate sales since. I believe she dates from the early 1950s (but possibly earlier). The doll was perhaps a souvenir
to a sweetheart back in Akron. I don't know the inside story of how the doll got to Akron but the condition suggests that she was lovingly kept by the owner. I never displayed it, just kept it in the box. What makes it even better a portion
of the proceeds of this sale goes to the Akron-Canton Regional Food Bank, which
serves hungry families in Northeast Ohio. This would make a lovely gift for any doll collector or anyone who understands the romance of the 20th century.
