Vtg 1962 Deluxe Reading Suzy Smart Doll 24” Jointed Knees Sleepy Eyes

Beautiful 1962 Deluxe Reading Suzy Smart hard plastic, sleepy-eyed doll with a bit of a makeover. :) The identifying mark found on the back of her head reads D3 - 301. Measuring approximately 24 inches tall, she did talk at one time, but I tested her with a new D sized battery and that mechanism is no longer working (though it may be able to be repaired). The cover to her battery compartment is missing. She has jointed knees and can be manipulated to sit or stand on her own. Her arms raise and lower easily. Her dress is not original but is vintage, made by Jolene and likely from the 70s or 80s. The dress, collectible in its own right, is meant for a baby, not a doll (see pics), as are her tights, underpants, shoes and socks. Her original rooted blonde hair has been cut off and replaced with a vintage doll wig (see pics). It is attached in the front but lifts in the back when intended. Otherwise it fits well and doesn’t slide around. Her eyes open and close with no issue, though they may stick slightly on occasion due to age. She has had repairs to some of the cracked plastic on her legs (see pics) but they do still bend. This darling vintage doll, sold in supermarkets mid-century, has a Madame Alexander-like face and would be a stunning addition to any collection.
