Wanda the Walking Doll SOPHIE FOR SAKS FIFTH AVENUE 1950 Head Turns

Vintage Original, 1950, Wanda THE WALKING DOLL, made for Saks Fifth Avenue, by the Walkalon Co. Advance also made these dolls. Clothes for some of the dolls were designed by Sophie Gimble (1898 - 1981), in June of 1950. In turn they put Sophie's name on these dolls outfits. This doll wears Sophies dress. As a child she made her own doll clothes. Sophie took over the Salon Moderne inside Saks in 1929, as lead fashion designer. She traveled to Paris periodically, purchasing clothes from other designers.  Clean, no odors. She works great. Blue sleep eyes. Walks & moves arms while walking. Tag attached to dress reads- DESIGNED by Sophie of Saks Fifth Avenue. Sheer dress, with designs, over blue undergarments. Bonnet not original. Wind up on one side of her body. On & off switch on opposite side. Hard Plastic. May be marked on her back as well, but she still has her original one piece under garment on which is sewn up in back instead of buttoned, which is correct to this doll. 19" tall. Heavy doll. Very soft nice hair. Small markings on outer sheer dress. Small crack on side of one shoe at top edge. Not bad. She still walks fine. Thank you very much .
