This is a rare and highly sought-after Takara made under license from Mattel "KEN BARBIE"S BOYFRIEND CAMPUS IDOLS" Doll from 1984,
originally made exclusively for the Japanese market.
This beautiful fashion doll is in fabulous original condition. The doll comes dressed in cute blue multicolored jacket and pants. The badge on his jacket has a "K" and says BF/sportsman. The box contains green shoes, red plastic baseball cap, glasses and stand. There is a card inside picturing Barbie and Ken labeled "Campus Idols". He's perfect for any Barbie collector or enthusiast. A rare, hard to find Ken.
The box shows some shelf and storage wear commensurate with its age. I have not disturbed the original packaging or removed him from the box. Please look at the photos closely as they are part of the description.
While Barbie was initially made in Japan - she was not popular with the Japanese market. The Japanese felt that Barbie looked too adult. To gain a stronghold in Japan, Mattel licensed Barbie and family/friends to Takara from 1982 to 1985. After Takara lost it's licensing relationship with Mattel and Mattel formed a new company with Bandai called Ma-Ba. Takara renamed Barbie to Jenny and Ken became Jeff manufactured go forward by Takara Tomy.
