This is a vintage Japanese Kimekomi Doll that was purchased in 1976 when the owner was deployed as a military family on Okinawa. The doll is handmade and has not been modified. It is a featured refinement and was made in Japan. The doll represents Japanese culture and is a collectible item. Kimekomi is a traditional Japanese doll. Legend has it that the carving artist at Amigamo Shrine in Kyoto, made a doll with the kimono fabrics - this was the origin of Kimekomi. This doll is approximately 9". She is dressed in a predominately orange kimono. Her face is mysterious. The small sign found on the platform is translated to "Kyoto doll Nori Ohara". Part of my mom's collection.
